Based on the story by Pushkin, Boris Godunov is justly famed for its remarkable musical and dramatic realism.
Boris assumes power at a turbulent time in Russia’s history, having murdered the true heir to the throne. His guilty conscience eventually drives him to madness and despair. Mussorgsky’s magnificent score is infused with Russian folk music and stirring national hymns.
