Originally created by Petipa for the Bolshoi in 1877, Yuri Grigorovich’s memorable and beautiful adaptation of Swan Lake is today a classic in its own right. Set to Tchaikovsky’s sublimely evocative music, the lyricism, drama and enchantment of the enduring story of Prince Siegfried’s love for the beautiful swan-queen Odette, danced by the Bolshoi’s incomparable prima ballerinas, expresses like no other the ecstasy, tenderness, hope and despair that make this the most beloved of all ballets.
