'The Bolshoi in London - A Celebration'
a free Exhibition
at the
Royal Opera House
19 July - 7 August 2004
Lidia Kharina, Director of the Bolshoi Museum, has curated this exciting exhibition especially for the Bolshoi Ballet season at the Royal Opera House. On the ground floor in the Foyer Link, photographs show the Company and its stars on their previous tours to London.
In the Piazza Link, two cases of prints and photographs tell the history of the Bolshoi Ballet at their home in the Bolshoi Theatre since 1776, and eight cases feature the artists and the five productions to be seen on this London visit.
Upstairs in the Amphitheatre Gallery and Bar, original set and costume designs and production photographs are on display from these works.
They include Petipa's The Pharaoh's Daughter, originally created in 1862 and receiving its UK premiere on 5 August, Fadeyechev's Don Quixote, Grigorovich's Swan Lake and Spartacus and a new production of Romeo & Juliet, directed by Declan Donnellan with choreography by Radu Poklitaru, which will be seen for the first time outside Russia on 26 July. There will also be an opportunity to view photographic portraits of some of the Bolshoi's great artists.
The exhibition is open during normal daytime opening Monday to Saturday 10am - 3.30pm and to ticket holders during performance. Please note that during matinee performances on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons at 2pm, only ticket holders can be admitted to the exhibition areas.
